“Amahl and the Night Visitors” is being presented by talented Kauai community singers who, according to lucky previewers, perform with sincerity and talent the story of the crippled shepherd boy and his miracle.
The crippled shepherd boy, Amahl, tells some pretty unbelievable stories. His unbelieving, widowed mother is awakended one night to find visitors at her front door. Three Kings, rich beyond Amahl’s dreams, ask to spend the night in their poor hut. They are on a trip to take gold and other riches to a Child King that is being proclaimed by a very unusual star in the sky.
Down to earth poverty drives Amahl’s mother to plot to steal some of the gold to buy food for her crippled child as the Kings sleep. She gets caught in the act of taking a handful of the gold coins that could keep them alive.
Why all the riches for some unknown child when her own boy is so poor? The Kings let her off explaining that the newly born King doesn’t need the gold because his kingdom will not be built on man’s toil.
Then Amahl receives a gift as he offers his crutch as a humble present to the Child. A miracle takes place as he steps toward the Kings to hand over the rough crutch he has made for himself; Amahl is no longer crippled, he can walk!
This is the story of “Amahl and the Night Visitors”, being presented by our own talented community singers.
