PO’IPU — Davis Love III and five amateur golfers took the top spot in the PGA
Grand Slam Pro-Am yesterday at the Po’ipu Bay Resort Golf Course.
The team,
which also included Kaua’i junior golfer Casey Watabu, shot a combined net 121.
Other winning team members were Greg Hughes, Stephen Lakatos, Bruce Stovar and
Dennis Lindquist.
Love’s score of 70 was combined with the team’s best-ball
handicap score of 57 added in.
Jose Maria Olazabal’s team of Joe Steranka,
Kevin O’Malley, Mike Douglis, Alan Akamine and Chris Duthie placed
second.
Love’s team of Jim Awtrey, Vince Gennaro, Mark Lazarus, David Lee
and Jerry Gibson took third.
Olazabal shot a 72 as did Paul Lawrie, the
other pro in the Pro-Am.
Tiger Woods did not play, but he will be here
today to play against Paul Lawrie, while Olazabal plays against Love III in PGA
Grand Slam matches beginning at 10:30 and 10:45 a.m.
