Pig hunting season to open
LIHU’E — The feral pig
hunting season will open in Units A and J on Kaua’i.
The open hunting
season will be on Saturdays, Sundays, and state holidays starting Feb. 5 and
ending June 25, according to the Board of Land and Natural
Resources.
Because of the high number of hunters expected in Unit A, a
public drawing will be held to limit the number of hunters for the first four
weekends of the season only.
Tags are not necessary, but a permit is
required. No open hunting in Unit A will be allowed on President’s Day, Monday,
Feb. 21.
In addition, no hunting dogs will be allowed in Unit A and the bag
limit is one pig per hunter per day.
Permit applications for the first four
weekends of hunting in Unit A are available at participating hunting license
vendors and at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife office. The permit
application deadline is Thursday, Dec. 30.
For the Unit J archery area, bow
and arrow hunters do not need a permit, but must sign in and out at the Koke’e
Hunter Checking Station. Hunting dogs are permitted in Unit J and the bag limit
is one pig per hunter per day.
For more information on the hunting season,
call 274-3433.
