KILAUEA — The Kaua’i Police Department has ordered an autopsy for a
45-year-old New Jersey man who apparently drowned while snorkeling in rough
water off Larsen’s Beach Thursday.
The autopsy for Larry Graffius was to be
done at Wilcox Hospital, but the results were not available at press time.
The man’s body was found washed up on the shoreline by two beachgoers about 1
p.m. Dec. 2.
Apparently, the wife of the victim drove to Larsen’s Beach at
noon and dropped him off to snorkel, the fire department said.
Graffius
had lacerations on his forehead and feet and was not breathing when found by
Hanalei Fire Station firefighters who responded to the accident.
If the
autopsy confirms the drowning, the man’s death would be the 12th drowning in
Kaua’i waters this year.
