Waimea outside hitter Jennifer Fukino has been chosen as the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation girls volleyball Player of the Year. Fukino, a senior, helped lead the Waimea Menehunes to the KIF title in an ultra-close race against the Kaua’i Red Raiders.

race against the Kaua’i Red Raiders.
Two other senior front-line players
for the Menehunes were chosen as KIF All-Stars — middle blockers Charis
Castillo and Julie Mitchell.
Teammate Ashley Hori, a defensive specialist,
was also picked as an All-Star.
Two players from the runner-up Red Raiders
were named as All-Stars — setter Rona Nishikawa and outside hitter Jill
Dobashi.
Red Raider head coach Richard Roberts was the KIF’s choice for
Coach of the Year.
The Raiders came within one set of ending Waimea’s of
consecutive championships. The Menehunes have now won 28 KIF titles in a
row.
No players from the Kapa’a Warriors were picked to the girls
All-Stars.
