John Graves Watkins, Jr.John Graves Watkins, Jr. (Kuaina) died on Jan. 12, 2000 in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. He was born in Hilo in 1923, graduated from Punahou in 1942 and Harvard in 1946. He was formerly of Kalaheo where his father was manager of Kaua’i Pine until 1957. His mother founded the Kaua’i Humane Society in 1942.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Virginia, (Beji) Burks, Daughter: Lisa and son-in-law: William Lilles of Springfield, Ore., two sons: John Graves III and Robert Burks. Also surviving is his brother: H. Norman Watkins of La Jolla and two grandchildren, Elena and Nikos Lilles.
Services will be private.

Baby Noelan Sablay Dacuycuy on Puhi, died on Jan. 24, 2000.
He is survived by his mother Lalaine Sablay of Puhi and father Noel Ducuycuy of Puhi, maternal grandparents; Mrs. and Mrs. Cornelio Sablay of Puhi and paternal grandmother: Rosalina Ducuycuy of Puhi. There are numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
Friends and family can call on Friday, Jan. 28, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 9-9:45 a.m. where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lihu’e Public Cemetery. Casual or aloha attire.
Miriam Kia Kapahu
Miriam Kia Kapahu of Makaweli, died at her residence on Jan. 25, 2000 at the age of 81. A homemaker, she was born on Ni’ihau on Aug. 24, 1918.
She is survived by her son: Glenn Kapahu of Waimea Valley, daughter: Charlene (Kalei) Caspillo of Pakala, and brother: Milimili (Rebecca) Nihei of Pakala. There are six grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family can call on Friday, Feb. 4, at the family’s Pakala Camp house #A34 from 11 a.m. and again on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Waimea Hawaiian Church from noon to 12:45 p.m. where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery. Casual or aloha attire.

David Aloyis Mendes of Hanepepe, died on Jan. 24, 2000 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 41.
He is survived by his son: David Aloyis Mendes of Hanapepe, father: Louis Aloyis Mendes of Wailua, sisters: Carol (Sivi) Akoteu of Kapahi, Valorry (Juan) Montero of Kapa’a and Cherie (Elton) Kahalekai of Wailua, and step-daughters: Natalie Worrell of Lihu’e and Nicole Worrell of Hanapepe. There are numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 9-10:45 a.m. where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow. Casual or aloha attire.
