Kapa’a died Jan. 6, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of
40.

to 11 a.m. with Brother George Chee officiating.
A special events
coordinator for the Kaua’i Food Bank and United Way, she was born March 22,
1959, in Lakewood, Calif.
She received numerous community awards and
achievement recognitions, including the Governor’s Kilohana Award.
She is
survived by two sons Jonah Lewis and Noah Troche; four daughters: Angela and
Fawn Lewis and Natasha White; two grandchildren; four brothers: Kimo, Kini,
Ruben Kamanawa Santos and Lopaka Barrett; and one sister: Kamaile Santos; and
her parents, Byron Gerald White and Maile Kinimaka.
Arrangements are being
handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Arthur Hazlett
Arthur Frank
Hazlett of Waimea died Nov. 22, 1999, at the age of 63. He was born Nov. 13,
1936, in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, and lived on Kaua’i from 1968 to 1979 and
from 1985 to his death.
He was employed by the U.S. Navy from March 1961
until his retirement in January 1996. He worked as a Communications Technician
at Long Beach Naval Shipyard; in the Timing and Scheduling Centers and as a
Program Manager for Fleet Operations at Pacific Missile Test Center, Point
Mugu, Calif.; and as a Program Manager for Navy, Marine and Army operations,
and for the AEGIS Weapons System operations at the Pacific Missile Range
Facility, Barking Sands.
He is survived by his wife, Annelle; two sons,
Anthony (Sue) Hazlett of Madison, Wisc., and Alexander (Karen) Hazlett of
Honolulu; one daughter, Alicia (Bill) Hartsell of Kekaha; two grandchildren,
Annalissa and Devon Hartsell; father-in-law, Merlin (Doris) Fleaner, Tucson,
Ariz.; brother-in-law, Charles (Norma) Graybill, Hiawatha, Iowa; and numerous
aunts, uncles, and cousins in Pennsylvania.
Friends may visit with the
family at 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, at the Koloa Union Church. Service
officiated by Rev. John Lunn will begin at 4 p.m. Casual attire is
suggested.

Ruth McMillin
Ruth Strausz McMillin of Lihue’e died Jan.
5, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 78.
An engineer for the
construction industry, she was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Spokane, Wash.
She is
survived by her husband; Claude McMillin of Lihu’e; two sons: Patrick C.
(Sharon) McMillin of Kaua’i and Michael J. (Jean) McMillin of Seattle, Wash.,
two brothers-in-law: Albert McMillin of Arizona and Glen Foxworthy of Kansas
and one sister-in-law: Helen Foxworthy of Kansas; and five
grandchildren.
No services are scheduled. Arrangements are being handled by
Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Benita Coloma
Benita Guillermo Coloma
of Kaua’i died Dec. 29, 1999, at the age of 76.
Previously employed by
Castle and Cook on Lanai, she retired in 1983. Benita and Jorge Coloma
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995. She lived her last years on
Kaua’i with a total of 54 years.
She is survived by her husband, Jorge
Coloma; sons, Loreto (Dorothy) Coloma, Eugenio (Suzie) Coloma and Ernest (Pat)
Coloma of Kaua’i; daughter, Josie (Conrad) Pasion of Union City, Calif.; 12
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 21, at Mililani Downtown Mortuary, with service at 7 p.m.
Visitation will be again at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Mortuary, Mass
at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. at Valley of the Temples Memorial
Park. Casual attire is suggested.

William Sarmento
William Correa
Sarmento of Lawai died Jan. 5, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of
86.
A maintenanceman for Kaua’i Surf, he was born Dec. 10, 1917, in
Lawai.
He is survived by two sons: William Sarmento, Jr. of Lawai and
Charles “Jerry” Sarmento; three daughters: Linda Sarmento Vidinha of Puhi,
Sheila Sarmento McLaughlin and Laverne Sarmento Green of California; three
brothers: Harry (Dora) Sarmento, James Samento, and Richard (Elaine) Sarmento;
one sister: Alice Sarmento Aigbee, and one sister-in-law, Dee Sarmento and 14
grandchildren.
Friends and family may call on Monday, Jan. 10, at
Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. where
services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial
Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by
