LIHU’E – It was supposed to be a quad-meet with four teams, but Seabury Hall of
Maui invaded the KIF and turned the swimming event into a five-team meet last
Saturday.
Seabury Hall was a late addition to the meet, and the visitors
stole the show by winning 17-out-of-20 events.
Seabury won the boys
competition, and edged the powerful Kaua’i High School girls team by a
point.
The KIF also had its first state-qualifying time as Kim Black, Stacy
Hall, Malie Matsumoto and Patricia Cockett went 4:10.46 in the 400 freestyle
relay.
Matsumoto was also an individual winner in the 100 butterfly. Other
Kaua’i event winners were Kapa’a’s Malia Dowling and Waimea’s Fred Flores and
Ryann Fernandez.
Host Island School had two swimmers with the biggest
improvement of times — Jennifer Green and Erin Emberson.
