the Kaua’i High School Red Raiders 55-40 Tuesday night at the Stan Sheriff
Center in the opening round of the state boys basketball tournament.
The
Rams opened up to a 2-0 lead with a jam by Sa Tanuvasa, but Kaua’i quickly went
ahead 7-2.
Radford grabbed a 10-9 first quarter lead and turned it into a
30-16 halftime lead.
Tanuvasa ended with 23 points for the Rams, while
jacob Avila added 10 and isaac Duncklee tossed in nine.
Brad Lum-Tucker was
the Kaua’i High high scorer with 10 points and he was followed by Mason Ceria
with nine, Lionel Tomacder with eight, and R-Jay Pillos with six. Brandon
Ramos, with five points, and Tyler Kobayashi, with two points, also scored for
Kaua’i.
The Raiders (6-3) will go up against the Mililani Trojans (8-7) at
2 p.m. today in a consolation game.
Mililani lost a 57-33 opening round
game to the Iolani Raiders.
In other first round games Tuesday, Kalaheo
halted Honoka’a 57-33, and Lahainaluna defeated Punahou 65-52.
In
quarterfinal games last night: Baldwin beat Radford 35-32; Hilo tripped Iolani
61-41; and St. Louis edged Kalaheo 59-58.
