The 20th Annual Mayor’s Invitational Track Meet concluded on Wednesday
afternoon following two days of competition in track and field events.
The
event featured two off-island schools, Aiea High School and Kalaheo High School
as well as the three high schools from Kaua`i.
Members of Kapa`a, Waimea,
and Kaua`i high school girls shot put teams (below) enjoy the morning sun while
they wait for Parks and Recreation staff members to finish measuring one round
of the boys’ shot put competition. The girls were responsible for “shagging”
the heavy shots once the placement was indicated.
The event was coordinated
by the county’s Parks and Recreation Department and received manpower
assistance from the Lihue Fire Station as well as volunteers from the local
schools.
The next track meet is the KIF qualifying meet hosted by Waimea
High School scheduled to take place at Vidinha Stadium on April 15.
