Using 7 on 11 for featLIHU’E—Hitting a seven iron on the 11th hole at
Mokihana Golf Course, you might say that luck was definitely on Dean Ichimasa’s
side. Ichimasa hit his lucky number seven iron 155 yards for a hole-in-one and
$10,500 on Sunday at Kaua’i Community Federal Credit Union’s 1st Annual Charity
Golf Tournament.
“It was just luck,” said Ichimasa, who actually turned
away before seeing his ball hit the hole. When asked what he thought after his
teammates Earl Miyao and Kyle Nakagawa told him he made the hole-in-one,
Ichimasa said, “I was just stunned. I couldn’t believe it.”
Ichimasa’s
shot hit approximately a foot from the hole and then rolled in for the ace. The
$10,000 hole-in-one prize was sponsored by Alvin Kawakami of the Financial
Network Investment Corporation in Lihu’e. Ichimasa also received an additional
$500 from King Auto Center for being the first (and only) hole-in-one of the
day.
Charlie King, José Aguayo and John Gillespie of King Auto
Center won the tournament with a team score of 51.6. The Ebinger family placed
second with a score of 52 and Ron Kouchi, Shannon Sibayan and Tommy Tokioka
placed a close third with 52.2. More than 60 door prizes were also given away
with Loren Tanigawa winning the grand prize Las Vegas Package for Two. Other
prizes included interisland weekend getaways, golf packages, airline coupons,
TVs, VCRs, and a variety of gift certificates for golf, brunch and
dinner.
More than 150 golfers turned out for the tournament, which the
credit union plans to make an annual event.
“We really appreciate the
support of all our sponsors and those who participated in the event,” said
KCFCU’s President and CEO Mel Chiba.
All proceeds from the tournament will
go to benefit the American Lung Association of Kaua’i.
