KAPA`A-Kaua`i’s teams got off to a good start in the 25th State Senior Softball
Tournament being hosted at the New Kapa`a Ball Park as the champion Rookies
surged past the highly-rated Bell Atlantic 17-8 in the Division “A”
contest.
West Kaua`i, playing in Division “B” got past Hui Ohana 16-11, and
Kawaihau in “D” Division took a 20-8 win over Hui O Kolohe before falling to
Harley’s Davidson’s 10-14 in the afternoon contest.
The K-Makules, sporting
new purple jersies for the occasion, roared past Maui’s RME 16-3 in “D”
Division before falling to Kona Gold 17-12 in the afternoon.
East Kaua`i,
playing in the “C” Division, dropped their opener 20-7 to the Golden
Eagles.
The Lihu`e A’s, competing in “C” Division didn’t fare as well,
losing a 9-10 opener to the Maui Ohana and then dropping the afternoon contest
2-11 to Paipaikou.
Following the first day of competition, the Yankees
remain undefeated in “B” Division with 2 wins, 11-6 over Cami’s Lounge, and
19-6 over the Mustangs.
The Golden Eagles remain undefeated in “C” Division
with wins over East Kaua`i 20-7, and taking a 15-14 squeaker over Car
Quest.
Kona Gold is undefeated in “D” Division with wins over the Vikings,
16-13, and the K-Makules of Kaua`i 17-12.
The tournament features 33 teams
converging from all across the state to the New Kapa`a Ball Park where title
games will be played on Friday starting at 8:30 a.m.
Pat and Lana Rosa of
the Kaua`i Senior Centers’ Softball Association are serving as tournament
coordinators with support from the County’s Public Works Department and the
Fire Department as well a numerous other community volunteers.
