If respondents to The Garden Island’s latest Reader Poll had their way,
everyone would vote in this Saturday’s primary election and all future
elections on Kaua’i.
Through TGI’s Website at KauaiWorld.com, readers were
asked, “Do you plan to vote in the primary election Sept. 23? If not, why?” The
answers were unanimous: Yes.
Readers generally wondered why anyone wouldn’t
vote. They said it’s every voter’s duty to be part of the political
process.
Some examples:
Melinda Nesti wrote, “I have been involved in
politics on our island for many years, and I find the general apathy pathetic.
I would like everyone to remember that each vote counts. It is your chance to
choose who is going to represent you. Get to know the candidates and their
ideas, i.e., are they pro-growth or for moderated growth? Are they honest and
hard-working? I definitely will be voting this year, as I have always done in
the past. It is what makes the United States free.”
Maria Walker declared,
“Of course I’m going to vote. Every resident of Kaua’i has a responsibility to
vote in every election held here.”
And Lois Hamada promised, “I will vote
at both primary and general elections.”
