The close call last month with a tropical storm that decided to go away
and not become a hurricane was a wakeup call for Kauaians who forgot about
being prepared for big storms. To help make sure they don’t forget again,
Hawai’i State Public Library System is temporarily switching its focus from
books to hurricane awareness.
A series of seminars around the state,
co-sponsored by the library system and the National Weather Service and ending
with one on Kaua’i at the Koloa Library at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13, explain the
when, where and how of hurricanes, tropical storms and tropical depressions.
Also dispensed is information that can help islanders protect themselves and
their property from high surf, high wind and flash floods.
The expert
advice really is from experts—four officials from Central Pacific Hurricane
Center, which issues tropical cyclone watches, warnings and advisories for
Hawai’i.
The seminars are free. The information is priceless.
