2000, at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 72.
Born May 24,
1928, in the Philippines, he was a heavy equipment operator with the sugar
industry for McBryde and also served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by
his wife: Lourdes Planas of ‘Ele’ele; six sons: Darrell (Poopsie) Planas of
Maui, David Planas of Kaumakani, John (Linda) Planas and Terence (Tracy)
Planas, both of Lihu’e, Alvin Planas of Wailua and Louis Planas of ‘Ele’ele;
three daughters: Clarissa (Dino) Barrozo of Maui, Karen (Warren) Rita and Mona
Planas, both of ‘Ele’ele; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three
sisters: Dolores Domenden of California, Maggie (Marcelino) Padilla of
Hanapepe; and Josephine Stone of Honolulu; one brother: Gregorio (Aurora)
Planas of Kaumakani; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation
is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5, at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel from 6
p.m. to 9 p.m. with service at 7 p.m. Visitation is also scheduled on Friday,
Oct. 6, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo from 8 a.m., services to be
celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery in
Hanapepe.
Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Sim Yu
Sim Yu of Lihu’e, Kaua’i, died Sept. 21, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital
at the age of 82.
A proprietor with the logging industry, he was born Aug.
15, 1918, in China.
He is survived by his wife: Jesusa Calipjo Yu of
Kaua’i; two daughters: Cheryll (Manuel) Calipjo-Agtarap and Lilian (Edgar)
Calipjo-Curammeng of Kaua’i; three sons: Elesther (Milagrose) Calipjo of
Kaua’i, Lisel (Melita) Calipjo of the Philippines; and Wang Yun Zhi (Yan Ling
Zhu) of China; 14 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6, at Borthwick/Kaua’i
Mortuary Chapel from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Services at 7 p.m. Visitation is again
scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 9
a.m. Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at the Kalapaki Bay
Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by
Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Robert T. Hyman
Robert T. Hyman of
Kalaheo, Kaua’i died at home on Oct. 2, 2000. Mr. Hyman was a retired Civil
Engineer and worked for the Federal Aviation Agency, Post Engineer, Fort
Leavenworth, Kansas, U.S. Corps of Engineers, Fort Riley, Kansas, G.S.A.
Construction Management Division in charge of overseeing all phases of
construction at Truman Library, Independence, MO; Hoover Library in Iowa and
Eisenhower Library in Kansas.
He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge,
Kaua’i; order of York, Scottish Rite, 32nd Degree, Kansas City, Kansas; member
of the Shriners in Kansas City, Kansas and Kaua’i.
He had worked as a
volunteer in the National Tropica Botanical Garden and was a Deacon in Koloa
Union Church. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Sally Lee Hyman, he was born in
Leavenworth, Kansas.
Friends may visit with the family at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Koloa Union Church; service officiated by Rev. John
Lunn will begin at 3 p.m. Burial service will be private. Aloha attire is
suggested and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners
Hospital For Crippled Children at 1310 Punahou Street, Honolulu, HI
96826.

Merlin Caday
Merlin Monar Caday of Hanama’ulu, Kaua’i, died
Sept. 27, 2000, at Queen’s Hospital at the age of 43.
A security guard for
Freeman, he was born Oct. 24, 1956, in Lihu’e, Kaua’i.
He is survived by
his wife: Gail Caday of Hanama’ulu; four step children: Justine (Patrick)
Henriques of Wailua, Wesley Akama of Minnesota, Daisy (Jason) Newall of
Washington, and Wilton Yamase of Oklahoma; parents Mr. and Mrs. Antonio and
Crispina Caday, Sr. of Hanama’ulu; two brothers: Antonio (Arlene) Caday, Jr. of
Kalaheo and Virginilio Caday of Hanama’ulu; four grandchildren; numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Monday, Oct. 9,
at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on
Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Immaculate Conception Church from 9 a.m. to 9:45 where
services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial
Gardens.
