The midget and pee wee playoffs got into full swing the afternoon of Saturday,
Oct. 21 at Hanapepe Stadium. The action will continue through Saturday, Nov.
25, when Pop Warner teams from neighboring islands will converge on Hanapepe
for regional championships.
Kaua’i midget and pee wee championships will be
decided Saturday, Nov. 11 at Vidinha Stadium.
It didn’t take long for the
playoffs’ first upset. It happened Saturday at 4 p.m. in the midget division,
when fifth-seeded Kekaha clipped third-seeded Kapa’a 16-14, dropping the higher
seed into the loser’s bracket.

Midget:

Kekaha Chargers 16; (2-4 overall)
Kapa’a Vikings 14;

The Chargers got a 25-yard touchdown run from Roland Rull in the
third quarter, and a interception returned for a touchdown by Stephen Emayo in
downing Kapa’a.
But the critical points came late in the second quarter,
when Emayo sacked Viking Howard Pedro in the end zone for a safety and two
points.
Kapa’a kept it close, as quarterback Devin Machado found Chad
Valmoja for a 10-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. That made the score
8-6 in favor of Kekaha.
Emayo’s interception return, and Darrick Bayot’s
ensuing two-point conversion, gave the Chargers some breathing room at 16-6.
But Kapa’a came right back, scoring on another 10-yard pass from Machado to
Halen Lagmay. Blaine Baxter converted the two-point try, but it was not
enough.
Kekaha now plays the Midgets’ top seed, the Hanapepe Broncos,
Saturday at 4 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.

No. 6 Northshore Cheifs 21; (0-6)
The Raiders had little trouble
with their first round, jumping to a 24-6 first-quarter lead, before cruising
to the victory.
Koloa will play midgets’ second-seed, the Lihu’e Patriots,
Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.

blanking of Hanapepepe.
Lihu’e now will prepare itself for a showdwon with
top-seeded Kekaha Saturday at noon at Vidinha Stadium.
Stanton Yoshimori
got his team on the board midway through the first quarter when he scrambled
four yards to the end zone – the first of his two scores on the day. Micah
Waiamau added the two-point conversion.
Lucky Andres scored next for
Lihu’e, on a seven-yard run. Yoshimori then got back in the act, running 34
yards for the score early in the second quarter. Waiamau added the two-point
conversion.
Travis Nakakamura then found the end zone on a 49-yard jaunt.
Waiamau again added the two-point try.
Bradley Semana ended the Dolphins’
scoring with a one-yard plunge into the end zone late in the second
quarter.

By virtue of its commanding win, the Steelers now will ready
themselves for a showdown with the second-seeded Koloa Rams Saturday at 2 p.m.

Three scoreless quarters set the table for the Jagaurs’ explosion in
the final 5:24 of the game.
Pono Perez got the offense going with a 28-yard
touchdown run. He also added the point after.
Perez then went right back to
work, scrambling 50 yards up the sideline for his second score in three
minutes.
Jaguar Devin Lopes hustled in from four yards out with 30 seconds
remaining. Kainoa Lemke’s extra point ended the scoring.
