Kaua’i is full of warm-hearted people. Some of the warmest are at Aloha Church
and the Salvation Army, where Thanksgiving comes early.
The church served a
Thanksgiving dinner to as many as 300 people last Sunday, and the Salvation
Army anticipates treating up to 1,000 islanders to a turkey lunch tomorrow. In
both instances, those partaking of the meals are among Kauai’s underprivileged
and folks just interested in bonding with their community.
There’s plenty
of help for the volunteers at both events. Cooks at the Kaua’i Marriott cooked
turkeys for the church gathering and will do the same for the Salvation Army
bash, as will the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort. Zonta Club, a Kiwanis youth
group and students from Kapa’a High School and Kapa’a Middle School also will
assist with SA luncheon. And Kentucky Fried Chicken pitched in with food for
the church diners.
Everyone with a part in these community-building events
deserves the sense of giving that they surely must be feeling.
