Now here’s a rooster that crow all it wants.
Russell the Rooster, the Hanapepe-based television show, recently picked up two national Videographer awards: A first-place for children’s educational programming, and an honorable mention in overall competition with more than 1,400 videos from throughout the country.
The episode that caught judges’ eye featured Russell and Calvin the Dog doing an interview aboard a replica of Captain Cook’s ship and teaching nautical terms to the kids who tuned in.
The people who make Russell the Rooster a hit with adults and children alike include Mark Jeffers, who is the show’s executive director, comes up with its ideas and plays Russell, and Will Welsh, who portrays Calvin when he isn’t writing episodes and directing. Robert Zelkovsky of Bamboo Moon Video Productions handles the filming.
Their efforts are a hit on Kaua’i and now nationally. Congratulations to them. And may they never lay an egg.
