It’s the most prestigious junior tennis tournament in the state, and the
only invitational tourney for junior players.
And this year, it’s coming to
Kaua’i.
The 13th Aloha Airlines Junior Tennis Championships will be held
December 1-3 at various facilities around the island. The tournament invites
the top 250 juniors, players 18 and under, from around the state to compete in
three divisions. Grand Prix will be contested by the elite juniors, while
intermediate and novice divisions also will be offered.
Invitation to the
event required a player to compete, and succeed, in a series of qualifying
tournaments throughout the year.
The Grand Prix division will be contested
at Kaua’i Community College, Aston Kaua’i Beach Villas and Nihi Kai Villas. The
intermediate players will battle at Po’ipu Kai Resort & Hyatt Regency
Kaua’i. Novice competition will take place at Kiahuna Tennis Club &
Sheraton Kaua’i Resort.
Aloha Airlines, along with 23 co-sponsors,
underwrite the tournament’s administrative expenses, and provide free airfare,
gifts and opening night dinner for all.

three divisions (their age group follows in parenthesis).
