League-leading Hanapepe idle last week
Kalaheo stayed right on the heels of Hanapepe as it picked up its sixth win of the season last Sunday, 11-1, over Lihu’e in Americans of Japanese Ancestry baseball action. In the day’s other game, Kapa’a finally cracked the win column with a 13-6 victory over Makaweli.
Kalaheo 11, Lihu’e 1
Another outstanding pitching effort from Kaina McCallum kept Lihu’e batters guessing and delivered Kalaheo a victory. McCallum went seven innings, striking out 10 and giving up just three hits. He yielded only two walks.
The pitcher also helped himself with two hits, two walks and three runs scored. Also for Kalaheo, Scott Serizawa drove in two runs on a basehit and a sacrifice fly while Troy Kaneshiro rapped two hits, drove in a run and scored twice. Kalaheo put together 12 hits in all.
Mikey Cardinez picked up the loss in five innings of work. Blaine Tsukayama pitched two innings of no-hit ball for Lihu’e.
Scott Ebisu got a pinch-hit double for Lihu’e, Dave Bukoski had an RBI single and Ahren Kaneshiro ripped a basehit.
Kapa’a 13, Makaweli 6
Owen Koishigawa struck out two and gave up seven hits as he staked Kapa’a to its first victory over the season. The squad is now 1-6 on the year; Makaweli dropped to 1-5 with the loss.
Kendesen Caspillo also threw four innings for Kapa’a, striking out two and walking two. Makaweli’s Royce Ijima took the loss. Mike Shimatsu and Scott Shimabukuro finished the game in relief.
Kapa’a was able to string 15 hits together. Robin Lore was responsible for five of those, one of which was a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Lore finished with six RBI on the afternoon. Shannon Masada smacked two doubles, Galen Sigeta rapped a double and drove in two runs and Reid Tamura had a double, a single and scored two runs.
League-leader Hanapepe is back in action Sunday with a 10 a.m. game against Makaweli.
