May Day (May 1) is Lei Day in Hawai’i, and Liberty House at Kukui Grove is celebrating a bit early, with various entertainment and demonstrations set for this Saturday, April 28. Kaua’i Tahiti Fete Nu’u Hotu Hiroa Maohi performs at 1 p.m., and a flower lei and haku demonstration and sale by Aunty Julia is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lauhala bracelets, wili wili lei, lauhala honu and Hawaiian checkers will be displayed and sold by Lu’s Crafts, and Aunty Janet Kahalekomo will demonstrate coconut weaving techniques to create grasshoppers, fish and more, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Ipu and ipu heke will be exhibited and sold by Kaua’i Fruit and Flower Company, and culinary arts students from Kaua’i Community College will hold cooking demonstrations at 11:30 a.m.
