The Lihu’e Kings lived up to their name last weekend.
The County of Kaua’i basketball team went undefeated through a 12-13 year old boys’ tournament March 29-31 at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center to claim the Outstanding Team trophy.
The tournament was put together quickly, after a team from Oahu expressed interest in coming to The Garden Island for some hoops competition. Those Oahu Bandits finished play in third place with a 2-2 record.
K & K Hui went 3-1 for second place, while the Puhi Wildcats finished with a 1-3 record and the Kapa’a Cobras ended 0-4.
Members of the champion Lihu’e Kings are: Kekoa Crowell, Lance Okasaki, Adam Cataluna, Garrett Sakimae, Kevin Cadiente, Walea Arquette, Matt Palaoran, Jeremy Victor and Pono Perez. The Kings are coached by Kaleo Perez and Scott Nonaka.
The Kings received a trophy, while the rest of the participating teams received a new official basketball. Players were able to fellowship with one another and the teams organized pot-lucks for the visiting Oahu team.
