More than $10 million in federal grants have been awarded for programs in Hawai’i, officials announced last week.
The largest amount is $1.9 million, which U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawai`i said will assist crime victims through intervention, counseling, emergency shelter and criminal justice advocacy.
The second-largest grant within the total allocations of $10.4 million is $1.7 million for University of Hawai`i projects in aquaculture, coastal systems research and technology development.
Another $270,000 is slotted for a UH-coordinated, multi-agency program that removes marine debris from coral reefs in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
