The Maui Na Wahine was crowned the unofficial champion of the loosely
organized County of Kaua’i 14-and-under girls basketball tournament
held Thursday through Saturday at Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The Wahine closed out the tourney with a spirited 27-24 victory over
Lihu’e in the finale.
After jumping out to a 13-9 first-quarter lead, Maui never looked
back. It led by three at halftime, and then held off Lihu’e in the
final quarter.
Heidi Namau’u led Maui with eight points, four of which came in the
first quarter.
Ashley Belisario and Maile Lewis-Deguchi scored seven each for Lihu’e.

Action continued Friday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
In the night’s opening game, Lihu’e Run ‘N Gun got out quickly and
never looked back, as it defeated the Kaua’i Raiders, 25-8.
Ashley Belisario led Lihu’e with 12 points. Kimber Fong had six
points to lead Kaua’i.

In the second game of the night, the tournament’s only visiting team,
Maui Na Wahine, blasted the Kaumakani Supersonics, 32-15.
The Maui team could not get to Kaua’i the game it was scheduled to
play Thursday.
Tiare Dole led Maui with nine points. Hoku Knapp-Magno and Sheila
Ramos scored four apiece to lead Kaumakani.
