In Bracket One, Wendall Nonaka finished first in the Garage Door Specialties Camaro, followed in second place by the father/son team of Glenn and Guy Montemayor in the G&G Repair 1967 Nova. Manny Lawrence driving Gary Long’s 600 cubic inch 1957 Ford Thunderbird, Tropical Thunder, sponsored by Manny’s Repair finished third.
Mark Perales, driving Doug Gould’s 1967 427 Camaro, cut an unbeatable final round .518 light to secure first place. Orlando Viloria won second place in his 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda sponsored by West Side Hair Cuts. Brian Kishida finished in third place in his Toyota Supra.
In the race for Top Eliminator, Riley Takayama drove his TST Performance Chevrolet Z28 to victory and received National Hot Rod Association’s Wally Parks Special Achievement Award.
With just three races left to determine the street bracket winner, Riley Takayama leads with 495 points, Walt Barnes is in second place with 365 points and Rocky Ferraro is third in the points standing with 360 points.
Night drag racing will return to Kaua’i Saturday, Sept. 1 at Kaua’i Raceway Park in Mana. Gates open for qualifying at 12 p.m. with racing continuing until midnight.
