USDA offers crop assistance
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency is sponsoring a public meeting to discuss the availability of the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, and to explain the application process and other matters. Job Fair 2001 set for August 18
Kaua’i Job Fair 2001 is offering booth spaces for those looking to hire folks, and is inviting those looking for work, to Kukui Grove Center this Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Employers can call Lori Uyeda, 245-1142, and those seeking jobs can contact Wayne Mukai, 274-3056. The fair is free and open to the public.
Seminar topic is on getting federal work
A free seminar on doing business with the federal government is being offered this Thursday, Aug. 16, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Kaua’i Community College’s social science building room 104. There will be limited seating, and pre-registration is required. Please call 246-1748 for pre-registration and more information.
The seminar is sponsored by the Hawai’i Small Business Development Center Network Kaua’i office. U.S. Small Business Administration representatives will discuss federal contracting requirements for small businesses.
Pulitzer names Silverglat to post
Pulitzer, Inc. (NYSE: PTZ), parent company of The Garden Island newspaper, recently announced the appointment of Alan G. Silverglat as financial senior vice president, effective next month. Currently corporate vice president and treasurer at Knight Ridder, Inc., Silverglat replaces Ronald H. Ridgway, who is retiring at the end of September.
Realtors set general meeting
The Kaua’i Board of Realtors general membership meeting and program is set for this Thursday, Aug. 16, beginning with a buffet breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Kaua’i Marriott Resort & Beach Club. The cost is $18, and the meeting topics are the proposed county Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance amendments pertaining to agriculture and open-zoned lands. Hiring practices is seminar topic
Avoiding unlawful hiring practices is the subject matter of a seminar set for this Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Kaua’i Community College social science building, room 104. Cost-U-Less reports second-quarter profit
Cost-U-Less, Inc. (NASDAQ: CULS) recently reported a net profit of $66,000, or two cents a share, on sales of $44.4 million, for the current year’s second quarter.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for the second quarter this year were $776,000, compared to a negative $4.697 million recorded in the second quarter of 2000, the company said in a press release.
The corporation has a store just off Kuhio Highway in Kapa’a.
