TGI STAFF –
About 36 preschool students were the beneficiaries of the Kaua’i County Police Department Explorers’ efforts at fulfilling their law enforcement badge requirements Monday.
A dozen Explorers from Post 2094 descended on the Kaua’i Community College Early Learning Center and the Lihu’e Hongwanji Preschool to process the students for Keiki ID.
Joe Kaauwai, one of the advisors for the Explorer program, said the requirements for earning the law enforcement badge are among the most rigorous for the Explorers.
The preschoolers received a safety activity booklet and some got to sit in a police patrol car as part of the day’s activities. McGruff, the official Police Department mascot, as well as Explorer instructor Paul Kanoho and Sgt. Mark Scribner accompanied the Explorers.
The Explorers included Ray Phillips, Tyrus Contrades, Wendall Bandmann, Delisa Duarte, Zack Cummings, Savannah Vea, Aaron Relacion, Tim Lansdale, Thia Orsatelli and Scott Trinidad.
In addition to Kaauwai, Rob Gausepohl serves as the post’s advisor.
The Explorers were also at work in the community last Saturday, help officers direct traffic at the Koloa Plantation Days Parade.
