That’s exactly what Waimea did last night against Kapa’a under the lights of Vidinha Stadium.
When they found themselves up 33-0 after only 24 minutes of play they really had no other choice.
No reason to risk an Adrian Agan injury.
Waimea is eyeing state’s in the future, and they wouldn’t want to see their leader go down in a blow-out.
The Menehune’s knew how to win this one from the get-go.
Give it to big-man Jordon Dixon, switch-up with a little Chesley Barba finesse, and bomb an Agan pass as Dane Koga for a 36-yard touchdown reception: 6-0.
The ground is Waimea’s game.
Guess they got a little air game, too.
Kapa’a, on the other hand, struggled on the ground. They accumulated over 70 yards on the ground in the f irst half, but it ammounted to nothing.
Their special teams unit wasn’t extremely efficient, either.
Kapa’a attempted to punt in their end zone following theirfirst failed possession, but the ball was fumbled by the Warrior kicker and picked up in the end zoned by Waimea’s Kyle Yokoyama: 13-0.
Waimea fumbled on the other end of the field, but Kapa’a failed to score within the Menehune 20, and opted to go for it on fourth down.
Another unproductive decision.
On Kapa’a’s ensuing possession, Warrior RB Dalson Gonzales fumbled on the 47 yard line, giving the Menehune’s another chance to widen the gap.
Perfect time for Dizon to break out some moves. The sophomore ran for 34 yards and another Menehune score: 19-0.
Moments later, Gary Mata intercepted an Allan Iloreta pass attempt and ran it back to te Warrior 1 yard line.
Dizon would score. Again: 26-0.
And if there was anything more that could have put the Warriors in a deeper hole, Waimea’s Aldon EMayo picked up a Warrior fumble and ran it back for 42 yards and another Menehune score.
By this point, you could see headlights shine in the parking lot.
Some people had enough.
Kapa’a did charge up the filed to the neutral zone at the onset of the second half, shedding some light on the Warrior offense.
But that light was quickly switched off by Koga, who intercepted Iloreta before they could reach the end-zone.
That hurt.
But not as much as when Barba broke out for a 63 yard run (he had 143 on the night), which set up a Palacio pass to Kanahele. Another score: 40-0.
