The Garden Island is gathering historic photographs, oral histories and memorabilia from the newspaper’s past.
Of special interest in the search are photographs of the newspaper’s buildings and of its staff at work, of newspaper boys and other images related to the newspaper.
The historic materials will be featured in “The Garden Island – 100 Years on Kauai”, a special publication scheduled for release later this year.
In addition, the newspaper is seeking copies of The Garden Island published between its founding in 1902 and 1911, the year its building burnt down on Rice Street destroying the archives from that era. Only a handful of issues from this time period are known to exist.
