After another weekend off because of an off-island soccer tournament, the Men’s soccer league will resume this Sunday. The last game was held on Sunday, February 10th, between league leaders Wailua Kryptonite and the Hanalei Soccer Club.
Both teams had the opportunity to take over first place with a victory, however it was the Kryptonite who were clearly more thirsty for the win.
The Kryp’ were faster to the ball and more aggressive in the midfield. Their defense was solid at key moments, which prevented Hanalei’s scoring chances.
Center-midfielder Duncan MacDonald set up Wailua’s first goal by sliding a through-pass to Kaena Mayer, who had blown by his Hanalei defender. Mayer took a shot, which was almost saved but ended up rolling past the goaline.
Duncan also assisted in Wailua’s second goal, as his shot was deflected by Kit Owen, making it 2-0.
Hanalei began to step it up during the second half, and got a score from Anthony Tangelder, who finished a cross-pass from Tom Green.
Wailua extended its lead – which blew away any hopes for a Hanalei win – when Ben Klinefelter managed to tap in a ball in the midst of the confusion caused by a three-player scrum.
The Wailua Kryptonite notchedthe win, and is currently in the league standings lead by four points.
No other game was held on Sunday because the Westside was skunked again by an absent Anahola team.
