From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today, some of the most reknown quarterbacks in the National Football League will compete in the 12th Annual NFL Quarterback Challenge at Vidinha Stadium.
Current NFL stars, including the reigning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Tom Brady of the champion New England Patriots, Aaron Brooks of the New Orleans Saints, Kordell Stewart of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jake Plummer of the Arizona Cardinals, Jeff Garcia of the San Francisco 49ers, and retired QBs John Elway of the Denver Broncos and Ken O’Brien, will all partake in the star studded event.
Some of the quarterbacks hit the field at Vidinha Stadium yesterday to test the Challenge field and survey the contest.
What’s the contest all about?
Skills of course. Pure skills.
These are the things the QB’s need to do to win this event:
Distance – the quarterbacks will compete for the long-toss in a competition marked by a line up the field. If the quarterbacks stray from the line to the right or left too much, the throw doesn’t count.
Agility – A course with the regular military-style obstacles, the quarterbacks will have to zip through tires and cones and throw at a target in the end to win this event.
Read-and-recognition – You wouldn’t want to be a golf cart in this event. The quarterbacks are required to hit moving targets (attached to golf carts) which are equipped with both red and green lights. The lights switch from time-to-time, and the QB’s have to stay focused on hitting the target with the green light beaming. The QB’s can also aim for distant targets for extra points.
