Kanoe Arinaga scored eight of her 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Warriors to a 47-38 victory over the Kaua’i Red Raiders at the Raiderdome Friday night.
The Warriors improve to 1-0 in the second round; the Red Raiders fall to 1-1.
Kaua’i took a three-point lead in the third, only its third lead of the game, and had the’ momentum heading to the final period.
Then came Arinaga.
Her bucket and foul tied the game 34-34 in the third, and her three buckets and two steals in the first three minutes of the fourth led an 11-0 Warrior run which gave Kapa’a the cushion it needed to go the distance.
Danielle Hill’s 12 rebounds played a big part in Kapa’a’s win. She also had five points, six rebounds. Jasmine Stevenson had seven points, seven rebounds, two steals; Sharlene Carillo had nine points, three rebounds, one steal; Tania Tasic had seven points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal; Arinaga had three steals with her 14 points; Ihilani Yama notched two points, four rebounds and two assissts; Jackie Alapai had two points, one rebound.
Delsa Tavana led the Red Raider scorers with seven points. She also ahd seven rebounds, one steal; Kehau Regidor’s two treys added up to six points, one rebound, two steals; Holly Iloreta added six points, one steal; Belinda Butac had five points, one rebound, two assists, one steal; Erin Garlie had four points, one rebound, one assist; Amber Santos had seven rebounds; Kelly Dennis had three points, one assist and two steals; Marissa Bonilla had two points, one rebound, two assists; Tania Racelo had one point, one rebound, one steal; Farren Higley had one rebound; Nadia Badua had one point; Krystalyn Kashiwabara had two points.
CORRECTION: In Thursday’s JV Basektball article, it says Anna Quibilan had the assist to give the Raiders a five-point lead. In fact, it was Starlene Kelekoma who made that assist.
