The Kaua’i AJA Baseball Association will host the 67th Hawaii State AJA Baseball Championship Tournament this weekend, from April 6-7, at Hanapepe and Vidinha Stadiums
The Kaua’i All Stars team is packed with incredible talent: Kaua’i Champions Kalaheo will have 6 players and 3 coaches representing their team. They are:
Kaua’i most valuable player Kaina McCallum, RBI Champ, Troy Kaneshiro, Kainoa Santos. Les Obatake, Lance Higashi, Palani “Zoomie” Bukoski, Liko Pereira, Dereck Lincoln, Coach Duane Miyasato, Coach Gerg Santos and Head Coach Peter Ishibashi.
From Lihue is Mikey Cardinez.
From Hanapepe, there is Wendall Nonaka, Kelly Robinson, Russell Ijima, Tyrus Matsumoto and Dereck Lincoln.
For Kapa’a: Batting Champ Ryan Silva and Stanley Morinaka, Jr., Makaweli lone Rep is Levi Maeda.
The last state championship for Kaua’i was in 1982 when Makaweli won the Kauai Championship.
That year, Makaweli Ray Emura was the State Tournament Most Valuable Player and Makaweli Mel Yamase was the RBI Champ. In 1995, Hanapepe Lenn Nitta was the State Batting Champ.
In 1992, Makaweli Lance Nakata won the State Batting and RBI Trophies.
In 1979, Brian Yamase won the Most RBI Trophy.
Oahu is the Defending State Champions as they are since 1993.
This weekend, they will be trying for their 10th Championship in a Row.
Sheridan is also Oahu’s Defending Champions with a 14-wins and 4 loss.
There will be a lot of exciting plays and yes, home runs at the Hanapepe Baseball Stadium tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m. and on Sunday at the Vidinha Baseball Stadium starting at 9:30 a.m.
