Louis Tomsic of Oahu and Janis Kimata-Lopez of Kaumakanai are First Place Finishers in 9th Annual St. Theresa’s Sunset Run
Janis Kimata-Lopez of Kamakani was the first female to finish overall in the 9th annual St. Theresa’s Sunset Run on Saturday, April 13, 2001. Her finish earned her the coveted Kaua’i County Trophy.
The second place male, Louis Tomsic of Oahu, was presented with the Mayor Mary Anne Kusaka Trophy.
A field of 73 runners participated to set a new record for the run. The runners this year were from Oahu, Maui, Colorado, Texas, Florida, and all over Kaua’i.
All participants received a ribbon for placing in their age group or a participant ribbon. A random drawing was held as part of the awards ceremony with prizes awarded from Collectors Fine Art of Poipu, Kaua’i Coffee, and Runners World.
The St. Theresa’s Sunset Run has been held as part of the St. Theresa’s Carnival since 1994 and has been organized by John Glover of Kalaheo along with dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. The inaugural St. Theresa’s Run was organized by Clay Glover, while still a Junior at Waimea High in 1993/94. This years volunteers included Cindy and Jerry Balderson of Kalaheo, Adam and Lynn Moore of Kekaha, John and Anna Morehead of Lawai,
Ricardo and Lisa Davalos of Eleele, Ernie Farrow (Timer), Bobby Menks of Hanapepe, Fran Acoba of Kalaheo of Kalaheo, Sarah Poteete of Waimea, and Karen Glover of Kalaheo. The run, one of the few on Kaua’i would not be possible without the dedicated volunteers.
