The Kaua’i High Red Raiders locked up the KIF girls and boys golf team titles April 13 at Wailua Golf course (Kapa’a boys and Waimea girls finished second), and now all attention comes down to the State qualifying rounds being played at Poipu Bay Golf Course.
The first round of the individual qualifying tournament teed off Saturday and produced some low numbers at the top. Kapa’a’s Juston Thomas scorched the course with 69, followed by Erick Wong one stroke behind at 70 and Allan Baab six behind at 75. Red Raider Lehua Wise led the girls with a 72. She was followed by teammates Mary Akutagawa (79) and Shelcie Takenouchi (81).
