The Rookies banged five home-runs in its 19-7 drubbing over Kawaihau. Archie Fontanilla won his eighth game on the mound and socked two homers at the plate. Wally Sonoda had two homers in the win, as well. Stan Dela Cruz had the fifth home-run. Hank Nishikawa had three hits, and in a pinch hit role, Harold Naumu had a triple.
Teddy Daligdig got the loss for Kawaihau. Ted Tamashiro went 3-3; Bill Sasan, Louis Nuesco and Joe Penderquest each paired hits in the second game.
The K-Makules did it again. They pulled off their second upset in a 7-6 win over West Kauai. The game was all tied up at six in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out on the board. “Tiny” Earnie Domingo blasted a home-run to send the K-Makules and pitcher Dado Pieste to another stunning win. Both pitchers, Pieste and losing pitcher “Bruddah” Rittmiester each gave up 10 hits.
Besides Earnie’s homer, Ben Pescador went 3-3 with two doubles; “Pancho” DeCosta had two hits.
West Kauai’s Ron Javiair and Ali Lomosad each had a home-run, and both Bob Markel and Danny Manus each notched two hits.
The Lihue A’s topped East Kauai 19-12 in the third game at Wailua, with Buster Matsumura outlasting Ronny Holt. Lihue’s big sticks: Dwight Fuji had a home-run and a 5-5 day; Tomo Hiranaka had two homers with a perfect 4-4 and Jon Ochoco and Joe Munachika each had three hits.
East Kauai’s Alex Yoon was held at 1-1, getting to base on two intentional walks and a sac-fly. Both Juan Ipac and Steve Lizama had two hits.
Next week’s games will be played at Isenberg Field. In the first game at 9:15 a.m., the Lihue A’s will take on the Rookies; East Kauai will take on West Kauai and Kawaihau will play the K-Makules.
