Kaua’i police detectives are continuing to interview witnesses and are investigating the claim of a girl that she was sexually assaulted earlier this month on the North Shore.
No arrests have been made, and more people need to be interviewed, according to Gordon Isoda, Kauai Police Department assistant chief in charge of the Investigative Services Bureau.
He confirmed that earlier this month Youth Services Section detectives responded to a call about an alleged sexual assault that apparently happened the first weekend of this month on the North Shore.
The assault reportedly took place during a “rave” party at or near Lumaha’i Beach.
Isoda would not comment on specifics of the case, as it remains under investigation.
Detectives also continue to investigate the case of a Kapaa Elementary School teacher who remains on paid leave following his arrest on charges of alleged sexual assault.
The teacher, arrested last month, was released pending further investigation.
The school and state Department of Education have concluded mandatory investigations, and the case is now being handled by KPD detectives, said Daniel Hamada, DOE Kaua’i district school superintendent.
The teacher is accused of fondling or otherwise improperly touching young female students. Hamada confirmed that the alleged incidents reportedly occurred on campus during this school year.
No other Kaua’i public schools have had to conduct any similar investigations this year, said Hamada.
