HONOLULU (AP) – Coast Guard air-and-sea crews Tuesday searched nearly 3,000-square-miles of ocean, or about the size of Delaware, for a missing Kaua’i boater.
Mark Brewer, 47, has been missing at sea since Friday after setting sail from Nawiliwili Harbor on Kaua’i, bound for Ko Olina Harbor on O’ahu. He was scheduled to arrive Friday night, and had planned to participate in a canoe race.
Coast Guard cutter Washington was scheduled to remain out at sea overnight until at least Wednesday, officials said.
Brewer’s 22-foot catamaran was located 2:47 p.m. Sunday, 16 miles west of Waianae but Brewer was not on board.
No new signs of Brewer were discovered Tuesday, the Coast Guard said.
