LIHUE – A soccer clinic sponsored by seven local churches this week drew over 100 children between the ages of 6-12 to Vidinha Stadium. The week-long instructional session finished up Friday afternoon at Isenberg Field.
Three mainland-based instructors from the Colorado Springs-based Uncharted Waters organization came from Southern California and Colorado to run the soccer clinic. The organization also sends out teams to teach other sports including tennis and volleyball. Paul Lyons of San Diego served as the head coach for the clinic. The group holds similar soccer clinics across the United States and in foreign nations including Korea and China.
The group works with the Compassion International ministry in staging sporting camps and clinics in impoverished areas of the United States.
Pastor Jed Young of the Lihue Missionary Church helped to organize the event. Young said the clinic was successful and a meeting next month will determine if another clinic will be held next summer.
Churches involved in running the clinic included Lihue Missionary Church, Kapaa Missionary Church, Kalaheo Missionary Church, Koloa Missionary Church, Aloha Church, Kauai Bible and Ohana Christian Fellowship.
