Kaua’i police have reported that Walter Robert “Fig” Mitchell II, died from blunt force trauma to his head.
Fig Mitchell, 60, of 4-422 Kuhio Hwy., Kapa’a, a former coach, umpire and sports announcer, was found dead in his home by Kaua’i Police Department officers the afternoon of Monday, June 10, after a neighbor called for police assistance.
Assistant chief Gordon Isoda would not comment on where exactly in the house Mitchell’s body was found or if police determined what type of weapon was used.
Police say they have no suspects in the murder case yet, which has now been open for two weeks. Crime Stoppers is asking for public assistance in identifying an African-American male, reported shirtless at the time, and a dark colored sedan, possibly blue or green, that was seen fronting Fig Mitchell’s residence in the early hours of Monday, June 10.
Isoda would not comment on whether drugs were found in Mitchell’s home or were a factor in his death.
“Right now we’re interviewing people to see what we can come up with,” Isoda said last Thursday. Isoda could not say how many of Mitchell’s neighbors were questioned as of June 20.
