Three members of Kaua’i-based Garden Angels competed alongside Sifu Pete in the 23th annual Hawaii Open at the Wahiawa Park Gym on Oahu last month.
Arissa Thronas took first place in Kata and in fighting and also finished in second place for Kung Fu in her division.
Dalton Thronas competed in the weapons division for the first time and took home second place (spear form). He also took second in Kata, third in Kung Fu and fourth in fighting.
Michelle Schofner grabbed first place for fighting in the Women’s Brown Belt and Under division. This was her second consecutive first place finish in the event.
Sifu Pete fell short of his goal to win three grand champions in a row. His winning streak ended when he lost to 24-year old James Kula.
Sifu Pete did, however, place first in Kung Fu forms, second in fighting and third in weapons in the black belt division.
