POIPU – Erick Wong and Jennie Pleas won their respective divisions in the Back-To-School Tournament held at Poipu Bay Golf Course the weekend of Aug. 17.
Wong shot an 86 to win the Boy’s 15-17 Championship Flight. He was followed by Abraham Akutagawa (87) and Stephen Peeren (88).
Pleas finished with a 91 in the Girls 13-17 Championship Flight, three strokes better than second place Miki Ueoka, who shot a 94. Shelcie Takenouchi placed third with a 95.
Chad Nonaka shot an impressive 75 to win the Boys 13-14 Championship division. He finished six strokes better than Jordan Cox, who placed second with an 81. T.J. Kua followed with an 83.
Shea Shimabukuro edged Rae-lyn Morikawa in the 10 year-old Championship Flight. The two each shot a 101. Kellie Oride placed third with a 108; Noa Matsuyoshi placed fourth with a 121.
Micah Yoshioka won the 12 year-old Championship Flight with a 93. He was one stroke ahead of second place finisher Jonathan Ganir (94). Wiley Yoshioka placed third with a 96. Byron Rualizo and Taylor Bell placed fifth and sixth with a 100 and 104, respectively.
Championship Flight Notes: Allan Baab shot a 91 for fourth in the 15-17 boys bracket. Cory French took fifth with a 93.
Terra Bell shot a 95 for fourth in the Girls 13-17; Claire Hirota was fifth with a 99.
In the Boys 13-14 Championship flight, Brandon Hirota was fourth (85), Kellen Watabu fifth (88), Bret Netzer sixth (88), Jet Levinthol seventh (91), Nikko Tasciat eighth (92).
“A” Flight:
Tom Hashimoto won the Boys 15-17 division with an 89. Layne Morita took second with a 95. Keoki Saiki’s 97 was good enough for third, and M.J. Soliva placed fourth with a 108.
In Boys 13-14, Scott Lopez led the pack with an 89. Mike Garcia was second with a 90. Travis Toguchi was third (93). Markland Soliva was fourth with a 93. Bubby Saiki was fifth (95). Noel Torres was sixth (99).
In the 10s division, Malia Saiki led the pack with a 100, five strokes better than second place Kyle Groves (105). Xavier Guirao took third (106), Kyle Furusho took fourth (116).
In a separate 10s division (9-hole), Taylor Viquelia won with a 40, one stroke better than Royce Ramos (41). Nathan Wong was third with a 43.
In the 12s division, Troy Jacintho led the pack with a 105. Mark Guirao shot a 111; Jordan Kaimana and Hoku Costa finished with a 114. Kyle Wong and Ryan Wong finished fifth and sixth (123 and 125).
“B” Flight
Royce Overlock shot a 99 to win the 13-14 boys division. Tyruss Lum was right behind with a 100. Thad Fuji shot shot a 106 and Lambert Guirao shot a 116.
In the 10s “B” division (9-hole), Levi Miyashiro took top honors with a 48. Laakea Warren also shot a 48. Keilen Shigematsu was third with a 56 and Jon Furusho was fourth with a 64.
