LIHUE – Kailua’s Bronson Teramoto and Pearl City’s Jodi-Ann Gum led their teams to 2002 HHSAA bowling titles Friday at the Lihue Lanes Bowling Center in Lihue.
Bronson was the individual champion of the tournament, netting a pinfall of 2,003 to help Kailua to its first ever State bowling title.
Kailua ended with 8,832 total pinfall, Pearl City was second with 8,699, Moanalua was third with 8,524 and Hawaii Baptiste Acadamy was fourth with 8,468.
Waiakea (8,020), Punahou (7,989), Baldwin (7,796), Hilo (7,785) and Kaua’i (7,239) followed.
Pearl City’s Jesse Cummings tailed Teramoto in second place with a 1,977 pinfall. Moanalua’s Daniel Toyooka-Lim was third with 1,893, his teammate Cy Hiyane was fourth with 1,891 and HBA’s Ryan Ohisa rounded out the top five.
GIRLS: Ann Gum’s total pinfall of 1,744 not only earned her second place at the 2002 HHSAA Bowling Championship, it helped hand Pearl City its third straight State title Friday at the Lihue Lanes Bowling Center.
Pearl City won with a total pinfall of 7,813, edging Hawaii Baptiste, who was second with 7,541. Kapolei took third with 7,412, Kealakehe was fourth with 7,171 and Kaua’i High, led by Mei-Ling Keopihiwa’s Top 10 finish, took fifth with 6,938.
Sacred Heart Acadamy (6,868), Waiakea (6,855), Hilo (6,836), Kalani (6,791), Baldwin (6,703) and Moanalua (6,368) followed.
Kapolei’s Samantha Masuda grabbed the girls individual title with a total pinfall of 1,744.
Hilo’s Starr Hamamoto followed Ann Gum in third with 1,718. HBA’s Mika Shimabukuro was fourth with 1,680 and Kapolei’s Cherish Saunders finished fifth with 1,672.
