LIHUE – The great Jimmy Yagi will return to share his basketball expertise with Kaua’i youth on Jan. 11 in the annual Yagi Basketball Clinic at Kaua’i High School in Lihue.
Yagi is a former University of Hawaii-Hilo Vulcan Head Basketball coach who brought UHH to prominent status by capturing several NAIA titles and upsetting several big name Division I programs. Coach Yagi has been inducted to the University of Hawaii-Hilo Hall of Honor.
Yagi believes in two basic concepts. He stresses basketball fundamentals and mental toughness. He has been invited to several foreign countries to provide basketball camps. Coach Yagi really enjoys working with local athletes and is willing to provide this clinic at no charge to participants. A coaches clinic will also be provided.
The clinic schedule is as follows:
9 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Ages 10-14 (New players only or players that never attended this clinic before). Introduction to Basketball Fundamentals: Dribbling, passing, shooting, and emphasis on footwork. *Hot Dogs & Chips will be provided immediately following this session.
10 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Ages 10-14 (Advanced players) Advanced hands-on basketball drills. *Hot Dogs & Chips will be provided immediately following this session.
1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – Ages 15-18 (High School participants & players) Advanced basketball concepts, individual skill drills, and offensive & defensive team court drills.
4 p.m. – 6 p.m. – Coaches clinic (Open to all Community and High School Coaches). Yagi will cover all areas of the game of Basketball. He will share his wealth of knowledge and encourages coaches to bring a list of questions. *Dinner will be provided.
