HANAPEPE – The Kapa’a Warriors kept bringing it but Cody Kimura and the Waimea defense kept sending it away.
With 12 saves, Kimura secured the Menehune a defiant 1-0 win over the Kapa’a Warriors Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
The win capped a successful evening for the Menehune, who also won the boys varsity and both junior varsity matches.
Kelsey Morikawa scored Waimea’s only goal, reaching the far post at the onset of the first half – and despite a pounding Kapa’a offense, the Menehune defense held them at bay the rest of the way.
Despite 10 shot attempts, Kapa’a was unable to find the net.
The Menehune improve to 2-2 in the regular season. Kapa’a falls to 0-3.
Waimea girls hold off Kapa’a 2-0
HANAPEPE – Laurese Rosare scored 1 of 2 Waimea goals in the first half and Fia Moe protected the lead with 5 saves in the second period to secure the Menehune a 2-0 victory over Kapa’a Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
The Menehune girls (2-2), who avenged a 4-1 loss to Kapa’a earlier this season, received their first point courtesy of a Kapa’a defender. Moments later, Rosare scored her second goal of the season on a cross shot that tagged the far corner of the net.
The Menehune got defensive in the second half, led by several key saves by Moe. Waimea’s defense did the rest of the work, stifling a headstrong Warrior attack in the waning moments and maintaining its first half lead.
Junior Varsity Soccer:
Chasen Sherman and Elysse Sato each had one goal to lead the Waimea jayvee girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over the Kapa’a Warriors Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
Kapa’a’s only goal was scored courtesy of a Waimea defender.
The Waimea jayvee boys defeated the Kapa’a Warriors 2-0.
