LIHU’E – Key steals and a flurry of last minute free throws enabled the Kaua’i Red Raiders to pull out a 53-48 home victory over the Kapa’a Warriors Tuesday night and remain undefeated (2-0) in Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation boys junior varsity basketball play.
Kapa’a battled back from a 10-point deficit with five minutes left to tie the contest at 46-46 at the 2:40 mark, but the Raiders clinched the game from the charity line with 7 free throws and tough defense at the end.
In a foul-plagued contest, both squads combined for 74 free throw opportunities as the Warriors converted 20 of 31 tries and Kaua’i sunk 21 of 43 chances.
Max Hadwin led all scorers with 13 points while teammates Kalau Hammond and Joshua Bradbury added 12 and 8 tallies respectively. Lance Okasaki grabbed a team-high 7 boards for the victors.
Greg Ragsac, Michael Lindsey (game-high 8 rebounds), and Zac Swartz paced the Kapa’a offense with 8 points apiece.
