The Kauai Sr. Citizens Softball League opened the 2003 season with a short and sweet ceremony last Saturday.
Emcee Ray SamFong introduced the officers of the league. Tara Waialeale sang the Star Spangled Banner and Hawaii Pono’i. Lana Rosa gave a short message for League Manager and husband Pat Rosa. Bishop, Les Kubo did the invocation.
And trophies were passed out to the 2002 Champs, Runner-ups and 3rd place.
Then it was straight to business. Getting on with the new season.
East Kauai started the league with a 17-3 win over Kawaihau.
Walter Silva got the win while going the distance on the mound.
Teddy Daligdig took the loss.
East Kauai’s Juan Ipac banged out a homer and Damien Victorino went 3 for 3.
Jack Lucash was 2 for 2 at the plate for Kawaihau.
In the second game, East Kaua’i met the new team in the league, the Kuku’s Aces.
Ron Holt threw a 4 hitter to lead East Kaua’i to a 16-0 win.
Alex Youn belted 2 homers, Damien Victorino hit 1 and Ray SamFong hit 1.
Only Ben Pascador had 2 hits for Kuku’s Aces.
The third game saw the Rookies take an 11-5 win over the K-Makules.
Archie Fontanilla picked up the win while Dado Paiste took the loss.
The Rookies’ Ray Espino knocked out a homer and had 3 hits. Nelly Mendonca went 4-4.
Only Guy Ruiz was 4-4 for the K-Makules.
The last game was called off at the 6th inning as time ran out.
Lihue took an 8-7 win over West Kaua’i with Joe Brun getting the win.
Joe Silva took the loss.
Lihue’s Tomo Hiranaka smacked a homer and Glen Akina was 4-4.
Frank Bukoski and Ben Aranio went 2-2 for West Kauai.
This weekend’s games will be played at Wailua Park.
First game: Kawaihau takes on K-Makule, second game: Kawaihau vs. Kuku’s Aces, third game: Lihue “A” vs Rookies, closing the day East Kauai vs West Kauai.
