LIHUE – With the holidays set aside, the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation (KIF) is looking forward to a saturated winter high school sports schedule which will keep fans warm through spring.
It all begins this morning, with the first high school swim meet of the season, another KIF softball double header and more prep soccer action at Vidinha Stadium.
KIF SOFTBALL – The Kaua’i Red Raiders will look to open the second round with a couple wins over the Kapa’a Warriors, a team that fell 38-0 to the first round champion Waimea Menehune last Tuesday at the Waimea Canyon Ball Park.
The double-header will begin at noon.
KIF SWIMMING – Island School will host the first high school swim meet of the year at Kaua’i High School pool this morning, starting at 9 a.m.
All Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation teams, including Kaua’i High, Kapa’a High and Waimea High will compete at the meet, along with visiting team Kapolei High.
The meet will mark the high school debut of freshman Red Raider Keenan Anaya, who shot from a 6th to a 2nd place state ranking recently in the 13/14 age group at the U.S. Swimming sanctioned championship meet at Barber’s Point.
Anaya and other top notch Kaua’i swimmers will face off against a fast Kapolei team, which features speedsters Sho Fujikawa, Meredith Egloria and others. Kapolei is the frontrunner (in terms of entry times) to win much of today’s events. Kauaian swimmers will be looking to slow the visitors down and begin the 2003 KIF swim season on a positive note.
KIF SOCCER – The Kaua’i Red Raider soccer program looks to continue its success this year with another Saturday series at Vidinha Stadium.
The Raiders face the Kapa’a Warriors with game times for junior varsity at 1:30 p.m. and varsity at 4:30 p.m.
