The Raiders (1-1) lost to the Menehune 46-45 in the league opener, and then fought hard for a win over the Warriors, who were swamped by the Menehune a few days before, 58-19.
Kaua’i may have looked past the Warriors, who found ways to offset center Futi Tavana. Of course, the Raiders still walked away with an impressive 27 points, 10 rebounds and 8 blocks, and foul trouble limited the playing time of Warrior forwards Ryan Cram and Amini Ta’ufo’ou, who were integral in shutting him down in the first half.
Ultimately, the Raiders looked vulnerable when Tavana wasn’t scoring, and the Menehune were at Tuesday’s game to watch it happen. Waimea will look tonight to do the same, and with a more sizable frontcourt, they might have more success than the Warriors.
