Adriano D. Emperado, Sijo, well known as the Father of Kajukenbo, will grace Kauaians with his presence at this year’s 5th Annual Kaua’i Open Martial Arts Tournament.
The event will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2, at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center Gymnasium, starting at 9 a.m.
Sijo is a 1944 graduate of Waimea High School. The Kajukenbo System began in 1947 at the Palama Settlement on Oahu. There are over 20 schools that practice this system on Kaua’i.
The Kaua’i Open is hosted by Emperado’s Kajukenbo and Longman Jiu Jitsu.
On Monday, Feb. 3, the Garden Angels will be holding a potluck to honor Sijo Emperado.
